There is a good case for subdividing England into regions. British Republicans proposes: Northern England, Southern England and Greater London.
But two clear criteria must be achieved
1.Each region must correspond to a long established identity that means something to the people who belong to it.
2. The economy and demography of each region should be of such a nature that it admits of governing as a unity with a degree of autonomy within the nation representing its own interests and traditions.
Neither of these criteria can conceivably be said to apply to the proposed Manche Region which STRADDLES the English Channel (which is to be abolished).
Such an unwieldy unit will be impossible to administer. This is EXACTLY what Brussels want for where regional power is weak they control.
These proposals could be the European Community's "poll tax".
